NESEN is a free weekly referral and pitch network for entrepreneurs, founders, executives, and scientists in New England. Every Thursday, 6:30 PM, Cambridge MA.
Active business builders who grow through trusted relationships rather than cold outreach. Your classification is yours exclusively — no one in the room competes for your clients.
From first conviction to first customers. Test your idea against real entrepreneurs, build the network your company will need, and turn a concept into a credible venture.
Early visibility into innovations before they reach your competitor's desk. A platform to validate internal ideas and build a network independent of any org chart.
People with deep domain expertise who see commercial potential in their work. NESEN bridges the gap between lab and market — find co-founders, investors, and early customers.
Informal, before the gavel. Welcome visitors, schedule one-to-ones for the week.
Referrals passed, closed business, visitor introductions, open classifications. Transparent numbers make the value visible.
Optional. One member, 3–5 minutes, on a topic relevant to the group. Any member can suggest an extended session for the community calendar.
Each member gives a 60-second update — not a sales pitch, a briefing for referral partners. What are you focused on, what does a good referral look like today, what should members listen for. Passing is not permitted.
One member per meeting. 10–12 minute pitch, then every member contributes one observation and one introduction or referral. Each member pitches roughly once every 6–12 months.
Members pass warm referrals or give public testimonials. A referral is a named person expecting your call, with context. Not a business card. Not "I'll mention you."
Attend any meeting — no application, no fee. Come with a one-minute description of what you do and what introduction would help you most.
Before applying, secure two recommendations from existing NESEN members. Recommendations are how the group vouches for you. Members who arrive with two are almost always approved.
Submit your application at nesen.org. The process is straightforward once you have visited and have your recommendations in place.
The weekly meeting is 90 minutes. That is not enough to build referral-grade trust. One-to-ones — 45–60 minute conversations between two members outside of meetings — are where the value compounds.
Attend the majority of weekly meetings. If you cannot attend, send a substitute — someone not already a member, briefed with your presentation and any referrals you are passing. A covered absence does not count against you.
NESEN is a professional community. These are the expectations — by group and across all members.
Terms of UseA member who burns a contact referred to them does not just lose that relationship — they damage the credibility of every member who recommended them.
One behavior defines the members who generate the most value: they give without keeping score. The return comes from the group over time — and it is almost always larger than what any individual transaction could have produced.
Come as a guest. Meet the members. Apply when you're ready.
